Shadowplay is television series by Björn Stein and Måns Mårlind with Taylor Kitsch as the American police officer Max McLaughlin and Nina Hoss as the German chief inspector and studied semiologist Elsie Garten. It takes place in the summer of 1946 in badly damaged post-war Berlin. On October 10, 2020, the series production had its world premiere at the Canneséries film festival, but did not take part in the competition. The original version was produced in eight episodes, but the series was first broadcast on ZDF in four full-length episodes from October 30, 2020.
Max McLaughlin is an American cop who arrives in Berlin in the summer of 1946 to help create a police force in the chaotic aftermath of the war.
